This is a demitasse that allows you to fully appreciate the beauty of the mentori chamfering technique and also the tenmokuyū oil-drop glaze, a glaze that turns black or silver in areas with high iron content. The surface, which is carved by hand after being molded on the potter's wheel, changes its expression depending on the concentration of the glaze; the shades of deep blue, black, and silver are reminiscent of the night sky.Creating a demitasse-size cup by hand is very difficult, so this is a valuable piece.

Tenmokuyū

Tenmokuyū is a glaze that traces its roots to the black-glazed tea bowls used in the Zen monasteries on Mount Tianmu (known as Mount Tenmoku in Japanese). After these pieces arrived in Japan, the term tenmoku was generally used to refer to similar black glazes.
The tenmokuyū glaze of Yakino Kiln Fukuharu is characterized by deep tones of indigo and blue interwoven with black. Changes within the kiln can also produce hints of silver in places. Depending on the lighting and amount of glaze used, the pieces can appear mysterious, like the night sky, and can be enjoyed from multiple angles.

Yakino Workshop Fukuharu

Fukushige Hisaya is a traditional craftsperson who inherited the techniques for using the potter's wheel and creating seihakuji pale-blue porcelain. At Yakino Workshop Fukuharu, where he presides, he pursues expression through ceramics with unique techniques and textures while focusing on handmade porcelain rather than mass-produced pieces. Since building his workshop in 2001, he has been highly acclaimed at multiple exhibitions, such as the Kyushu-Yamaguchi Ceramic Exhibition, including two Governor's Awards at the Nagasaki Ceramics Exhibition.
He produces one-of-a-kind pieces by combining the traditional hand-carving techniques characteristic of Hasami ware, such as shinogi ridges, tobikanna dimpling, and mendori chamfering, with glazes such as sehakuji pale-blue porcelain and tenmokuyū oil-drop glaze.
